The Script are suing James Arthur over similarities between two of their songs.

The X Factor winner reportedly used a similar melody and tempo from one of the band’s hit singles.

James released his comeback track ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ in 2016, and The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue has claimed that the song rips off their 2008 hit ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’.

According to TMZ, the band is being represented by famed lawyer Richard Busch, who previously worked with Marvin Gaye’s estate on the lawsuit against Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams’ song Blurred Lines.

In a statement to Billboard, Richard Busch said, “It’s widely known Mr. Arthur was dropped by his record label for public controversies, which caused a break in his career.”

“It wasn’t until the release of ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ that he achieved worldwide success.”

Richard filed the suit this week in Los Angeles, and according to reports, the filing claims that James approached Danny and The Script to “talk about ideas for a comeback song” after he was dropped from Syco in 2014, but the band turned down the meeting.
