Saoirse Ronan has been tipped to receive her fourth Oscar nomination, thanks to her performance in Little Women.

Critically-acclaimed director Greta Gerwig has adapted Louisa May Alcott’s classic coming-of-age-story for a new film, which is set for release on December 26, 2019.

The film will follow the lives of four sisters, Amy, Jo, Beth and Meg, as they come of age in America in the aftermath of the Civil War.

Though all very different from each other, the March sisters stand by each other through difficult and changing times.

Saoirse stars in the film alongside Timothée Chalamet, Laura Dern, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Meryl Streep and Emma Watson.

A preview screening of Little Women took place in Los Angeles today, and film writers and critics quickly tipped Saoirse for a Best Actress nomination.

Marc Malkin from Variety tweeted: “#LittleWomen could earn multiple Oscar noms, including best picture and directing for Greta Gerwig. As well as another for Gerwig for adapted screenplay. As for acing noms–lead actress for #SaoirseRonan, suppporting for #FlorencePugh and possible #TimotheeChalamet.”

Screenwriter Jenelle Riley commented: “Saoirse Ronan is going to land her fourth Academy Award nomination for #LittleWomen at the age of 25.”

Entertainment Weekly’s David Canfield tweeted: “So I’ve seen Little Women twice now and it’s one of my very favorite movies of the year.”

“Greta Gerwig delivers a both passionately faithful and gorgeously original take. Saoirse is a fierce Jo, Chalamet/Dern/Streep esp are great in support, and Florence Pugh is astonishing.”

The nominees for next year’s Academy Awards will be announced on January 13, 2020.
