Saoirse Ronan: 'I think people find it hard to accept I'm not a kid anymore'

Saoirse Ronan has revealed she thinks the movie business still looks at her as a kid – despite just turning 21.

The Lovely Bones actress has admitted she hasn’t found any good roles so far this year and struggles to find characters with depth.

“So far this year, I haven’t found the right thing. I’m 21 now and it’s a tricky age to find the right role.

“You’re kind of somewhere around that coming-of-age girl and a young woman, especially when you’ve started out at such a young age.

“It can be difficult to prove to people you’re not thirteen anymore,” she told Her.ie.

The Carlow native has found it tough to maintain a balance between having steady work and waiting for the right roles to come her way.

“I think it’s important to wait for the right role. It’s hard to have that balance between steady work, if you’re lucky enough to have it, and waiting for the right stuff to come along.

Meanwhile, Saoirse opened up about another passion in her life – writing.

However, the Atonement star admitted she’s not sure she has enough life experience to write something good.

“For so long, even though I’ve had a great childhood, I was always away working and that’s not very relatable for a lot of people my age,” she revealed.
