Saoirse-Monica Jackson reunites with Derry Girls co-stars to film season three

Filming for season three of Derry Girls is underway.

Saoirse-Monica Jackson, who plays Erin Quinn, took to Instagram on Monday to share a photo with her co-stars Tommy Tiernan and Ian McElhinney – who play her father and grandfather in the show.

The 27-year-old captioned the post: “Ladies & Gentlemen, I present to you Ireland’s Eurovision Entry 22.”

It comes after writer Lisa McGee confirmed the show would be coming to an end after this season.

She said in a statement: “It was always the plan to say goodbye after three series.”

“Derry Girls is a coming of age story following five ridiculous teenagers as they slowly… very slowly… start to become adults, while around them the place they call home starts to change too and Northern Ireland enters a new more hopeful phase — which was a small, magical window of time.”

“Derry Girls is a love letter to the place I come from and the people who shaped me. It has been an honour to write it and I will be forever proud of everything it’s achieved.”

“Who knows if Erin, Clare, Orla, Michelle and James will return in some other guise someday, but for now this is it for us and we’re excited to start filming this [season] with our incredible cast and crew to hopefully take our loyal fans on one last adventure.”

The first few weeks of filming will be going ahead without Nicola Coughlan as she wraps filming for Bridgerton.

The actress, who plays Clare in Derry Girls and Penelope Featherington in Bridgerton, tweeted: “So Derry Girls will start filming anything I’m not in first while I finish filming Bridgerton. The moment I wrap I’ll take of the corset and get back into the green uniform.”
