Sallyanne Clarke opens up about her son's suicide: 'I will never stop thinking about my baby'

The wife of famed chef Derry Clarke has opened up about her son’s suicide.

Sallyanne Clarke has said she never stops thinking about her son and that she and Derry will never know why he took his own life.

Andrew, 16, was found dead in December 2012 with traces of cocaine in his system.

“We will never get over it. But we never forget him,” Sallyanne said.

“I think if you lose a child, whether the child is three days old or 16 years — obviously memories are different — but the effect is the same.”

Sallyanne revealed she wears a locket with Andrew’s picture inside.

“I never take off the locket and I will never stop thinking of my baby,” she told the Sunday Independent.

The owner of highly-acclaimed Dublin restaurant L’Ecrivan added that the first year after his death she and Derry felt completely numb.

“You’re a parent. You blame yourself, at the end of the day. Why didn’t I see this? Why didn’t I see that? But everything happens so quickly.

“You know, you are kind of numb for the first year. For the second year the reality sort of dawns on you. We are in that now,” she said.
