Ryan Tubridy shares hilarious reaction to ‘extraordinary’ Wild Mountain Thyme trailer

Ryan Tubridy has shared his reaction to the Wild Mountain Thyme trailer, which has caused a stir on social media.

The upcoming film, which stars Jamie Dornan, Emily Blunt and Christopher Walken, has been harshly criticised online – after the trailer featured some dodgy Irish accents.

Speaking on his RTÉ Radio 1 show this morning, Ryan struggled to contain his laughter as he spoke about the controversial trailer.

Ryan said: “The country went quite wild last night for the trailer for Wild Mountain Thyme… The trailer has got people talking, and I can understand why, because it is extraordinary.”

Comparing the trailer to the 1952 film The Quiet Man, Ryan said: “I mean The Quiet Man is a beautiful film, but it’s of it’s time.”

“And they seem to have brought The Quiet Man’s ancient history of beauty, dragged it through a prism of decades of time, forgotten that maybe electricity was created, and that the internet exists? And now have this strange story of ‘would ya look at him father, what are ya doing at all at all?'”

“I mean, you would expect Bing Crosby to be drafted in as the local priest. It is amazing, and the accents are extraordinary, and I don’t know what it is,” he said.

Although the trailer has received a lot of backlash, Ryan said we shouldn’t be too quick to judge.

“I can’t knock it, I don’t want to anyway, because I haven’t seen it, in fact nobody has seen it!” he said.

“We’re just judging on trailers, which isn’t fair, so until we see the whole thing – we can’t judge it. So let’s wait and then judge, and say ‘it’s not the best’ or ‘it’s amazing!'”
