Ryan Tubridy addresses ‘ratings war’ between The Late Late Show and The Tommy Tiernan Show

Ryan Tubridy has addressed the “ratings war” between The Late Late Show and The Tommy Tiernan Show.

Back in March, Tommy Tiernan’s popular chat show attracted more viewers than the Late Late for the first time since its 2016 launch.

At RTÉ’s new season launch, Ryan was asked whether he was threatened by the success of the Saturday night talk show.

The Irish presenter replied: “No, never. Thankfully I’m so comfortable in my skin and with what we’ve done and achieved with the [The Late Late Show], and as someone who’s a friend of Tommy’s and an admirer of his…”

“The good news there is that it was a massive win for RTÉ. Big win, big chat shows, ratings smashed all over the place, peace and love, everyone’s happy! Everyone goes home with the win.”

“We have two very different shows. We do a live TV programme, which I think is the last live TV show around. Tommy does a different kind of show. We bring different skillsets to those shows so long may that live!”

The Late Late Show will return to our screens next month on Friday, September 3.
