Ruth Negga has revealed that she’s still coming to terms with her Oscar nomination.

The former Love/Hate star has been nominated for an Oscar for her stellar performance in the new film Loving.

The Irish/Ethiopian actress admits that she “went into a bit of a state of shock.”

“I couldn’t really process it and it still can’t process it even though I know it’s on Sunday,” she added.

Ruth spoke to RTÉ’s Washington correspondent Caitríona Perry on Morning Ireland.

“I really wasn’t expecting it genuinely so I didn’t set my alarm for the reading out and I took my phone off airplane mode and my messages went from like nine to 98 within seconds and I thought ‘this is either really good news or people are really enjoying telling me bad news’, but luckily it was the former.

“The great thing about filming when you’re prepping for this is that you don’t really think about the nerves, so they’re starting to land now.

“Most of all, I’m hoping not to fall over – that’s the main goal,” she added.

The Limerick-raised actress is now ready to raise the style stakes at her Oscars debut.

“I have a really good team, I’m wearing a very beautiful dress. It does take a long time to get ready, but thats something that I want to enjoy and I want to savour it.

“These are once in a lifetime opportunities and I really want to enjoy it and feel proud on behalf of everybody involved in this film, and also from Mildred and Richard.”

“Well, I think it’s wise. I remember Amy Harris saying that Helen Mirren told her to always have a speech. It’s just, why not? It’s too important not to,” she continued.
