Ruth Negga has revealed that her Irish accent was mocked while she lived in the U.K.

The actress previously said that being black in Ireland was never an issue but when she moved over to England, people judged her not only on the colour of her skin but how she spoke as well.

“I moved to London and I was black and Irish, so there were two things that made me very different,” she said.

The Limerick native admitted she was shocked to be mocked for her accent and how Irish people pronounce the “t” in words softly.

“I remember someone laughing at the way I said a word,” she told Ryan Tubridy on the Late Late Show.

“It was ‘thirty.’ I was so shocked that you could do that in front of other people.

“But that’s my story, I would hate to speak for other people. Maybe it’s different now.”
