Ruth Negga and Colin Farrell have both been nominated for a Golden Globe Award.

Ethiopian born Ruth, who was raised in Limerick by her Irish mother, was nominated in the Best Actress (Drama) category for her role in the upcoming film Loving.

Colin Farrell is nominated for Best Actor in the Comedy or Musical category for his role in the The Lobster. Colin previously won a Golden Globe for his role in dark comedy, In Bruges, back in 2009.

Meanwhile, John Carney’s Sing Street has been nominated for Best Movie in the Comedy or Musical category.

Monaghan native Caitriona Balfe has also been nominated for Best Actress in a TV Drama for the second year in a row for her role in Outlander.

The news comes as 34-year-old Ruth Negga has been widely tipped for an Oscar nod, ever since Loving premiered at Cannes in May.

The film is based on the true story of Mildred Jeter and Richard Loving, an interracial couple who were arrested in 1958 for marrying.
