The RTE star gave birth to Cal on 12 May – with the baby boy arriving six weeks early and weighing just six pounds.

But Maura, 43, said her new son with Fine Gael TD John Deasy is a “complete dream” and is sleeping well.

“Cal is a very relaxed baby and is feeding and sleeping very well, which is a complete dream,” she told Mothers & Babies

“He is so cute I could just look at him all day. It took a few days to adjust when I got back from hospital, getting confident changing and feeding him especially as he is so small.

“But it’s amazing how hardy babies are and how quickly they develop.”

Now Today host Maura plans to bring Cal to her home in Inishmore, in the Aran Islands this summer.

She said: “I am really looking forward to the summer and bringing him home to the Aran Islands. My family have been great.

“My sisters are taking it in turns to come and help me and my mother has been here all week. Her experience is invaluable.”
