Roz Purcell: ‘My family discovered a dark sense of humour after my sister’s diagnosis’

Roz Purcell admitted that her family have discovered that they have a “very dark” sense of humour – since her sister Rachel was diagnosed with leukaemia.

The model’s older sibling Rachel, 28, was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) earlier this year, leaving the Purcell family reeling.

However, despite the initial shock, they are extremely positive about Rachel’s prognosis as CML is “completely controllable” – and Roz has revealed that humour has helped her family through such a tough time.

“We’ve all realised that we’ve a very dark sense of humour though, very dark,” she said on The Nicky Byrne Show on 2FM.

CML affects the body’s ability to produce myeloid cells which affects the bone marrows production of white blood cells.

Speaking about her sister, Roz admitted that Rachel’s renewed outlook on life has encouraged her and her family.

“I have such admiration for her, she stays so positive… and she’s really changed her life.

“Not so much her lifestyle, but even her outlook – she definitely takes more opportunities.

“She’s even encouraged myself and my family to take way more opportunities and not to worry or stress about the little things,” she added.
