Rosanna Davison on the gluten controversy: 'If I was the parent of an autistic child, I would have been horrified'

Rosanna Davison has opened up about the gluten controversy she has been at the centre of and revealed it’s been “a very challenging few days”.

The former Miss World became the centre of a social media fire-storm when she gave an interview to The Irish Independent where she cited an article that linked gluten with autism, arthritis and schizophrenia.

However, the 31-year-old has since cleared the air in a statement but admitted the online abuse she received was tough to deal with.

Upset: Rosanna has found the controversy very draining | BRIAN MCEVOY

“I’m very drained and it’s been a very challenging few days. I understand where people are coming from,” she said.

“It’s the nature of what we’re dealing with in the modern world, we’re so influenced by social media now,” she told Anton Savage on Today FM.

“I got a lot of unpleasant and aggressive remarks which left me very upset and shaken but I can appreciate why it happened as well.”

Tough: Rosanna received online abuse for the article | VIPIRELAND.COM

While Rosanna may have been upset by the backlash, she insisted that she doesn’t want to play the victim.

“I don’t want to play a victim here but I do feel my message was very much miscommunicated in the article,” she said.

“If I was the parent of an autistic child, I would have been horrified to read what was written.”

“What I want to make very clear is that my message was miscommunicated. These are not my views, it’s not my quote and it’s not in the book. “
