Rory McIlroy’s caddie thanks him for ‘tsunami’ pay check

Rory McIlroy has revealed that his caddie sent him a message to thank him for his “tsunami” of a pay check.

The Belfast native has been working with JP Fitzgerald since the beginning of his career except for the odd time Niall Horan jumped in as caddie.

“I think his words were, ‘A tsunami just hit my bank account, so thank you very much,'” he said.

Rory gave JP 10% of both his Tour Championship prize money and his FedEx Cup bonus check.

“J.P. got a nice percentage of that, so I knew at that point it was already there,” he told the Irish Independent.

“So the total was $1.05 million. I think he was quite happy. He deserved it.

“He’s a big part of what we do. He was with me when I was No. 210 in the world and when I was No. 1.”
