Golf pro Rory McIlroy beat of stiff competition to win RTÉ’s Sports Person of The Year.
The world number one was up against the likes of world champion boxer Katie Taylor for the coveted award.
Rory had a triumphant 2014,  included winning two Majors – the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool and the PGA Championship at Valhalla.
Rory McIlroy won the RTÉ award for the second time.
Meanwhile Irish rugby coach Joe Schmidt was named the winner of the RTÉ Sport Manager of the Year.
And Brian O’Driscoll was honoured with the RTÉ/Irish Sports Council Hall of Fame Award.
