Rory McIlroy has said he is “happy” for ex-girlfriend Holly Sweeney after learning she is pregnant.
The Co Down golfer dated his childhood sweetheart until 2011, before shacking up with Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki – who he ended his engagement to last month.
But Rory said he was delighted to see Holly and ice hockey player boyfriend Jeff Mason were having a baby.
The 25-year-old said: “I’m happy for her. You know, it’s great to see she’s happy – all good.”

Her ex Rory was staying in Dublin’s Westbury Hotel ahead of the Irish Open which stars at Fota Island Resort in Co. Cork tomorrow.
He told the Irish Mail: “I’m heading down now. It’s beautiful – I just got in yesterday… and the weather’s supposed to be set for the rest of the week so it should be good.”

Previously Holly said it “killed” her when she discovered Rory had found new love with Caroline.
“I always suspected he had a thing for her. He’s always been a big fan of tennis. When he was watching the women’s games he always said he fancied her but I didn’t take it that seriously – little did I know.
“It was Rory that ran away with Caroline – not the other way around – so I guess I blame Rory, or both of them if I’m totally honest.
“I have to put the blame on him for what has happened but obviously I’m not her biggest fan ever.
