Ronan Keating’s charity launches urgent appeal amid COVID-19 crisis

Ronan Keating’s charity The Marie Keating Foundation has launched an urgent appeal to the public for donations.

The charity, who work to support those with breast cancer and their families, have redeployed their nurses to work in the HSE in contact tracing and on helplines fighting the current COVID-19 outbreak.

Speaking to Ireland AM via video link: “We’ve had to cancel all our fundraising for the foreseeable future which is the right thing to do.”

“We can’t have people congregate. We’re not government funded as a charity. It’s really really important.”

“Our nurses are out there on the frontline, they’re dealing with cancer patients. And cancer patients, as you can imagine, are at serious risk.”

“Their immune systems are incredibly low because of the therapy and so on that they’re going through.”

“For us to keep funding for our nurses and for our mobile units on the road, or whatever it may be we need to raise funds.”

Launching an urgent appeal, Director of Fundraising Linda Keating said:

“The Marie Keating Foundation is so reliant on our main source of income, namely our own events and the public getting behind us with fun runs, bake sales, sponsored cycles etc, that for all of these to be cancelled immediately with little notice is potentially devastating for us.”

“We really do need the public’s help to help us continue to offer help to those we support who are now more vulnerable than ever.”
