“Shocking, isn’t it? She really struggled and fought hard and gloriously, always for us all around.

“She wanted us not to be in pain for her…gorgeous girl,” he told The Daily Beast.

But the Meath actor, says having faith has helped him through the grieving process.

“Somehow out of all that pain there is a beauty in it,” he said.

“It all helps, it’s important to have faith, it’s essential to have faith. Cancer is the most pernicious, insidious, disgusting disease of life.”

Meanwhile Pierce revealed he has thought about his own mortality.

“Well, I’ve always thought about it, actually. I suppose being Irish, Catholic, being an actor, reading the history and literature of life, playing characters,” he said.

“It’s good to contemplate one’s time in life, and the passing of your own earthly being.”
