PICS: New Miss Ireland Niamh Kennedy wakes up in her crown

After beating hundreds of girls in local heats around the country, and 33 other girls in the final – Niamh Kennedy has been crowned Miss Ireland 2016.

The Tipperary native, beat off stiff competition at Dublin’s Crowne Plaza Hotel in Santry on Friday night.

Hosted by TV3’s Elaine Crowley and Miss Ireland organiser Brendan Scully, the Aoife McGrane was named runner up, while Leanne Gray was second runner-up.

In traditional style, Niamh’s first job as the new Miss Ireland was the annual “waking up” photo shoot, with Niamh lying in bed wearing the coveted crown.

Stars in attendance on the night included Alan Hughes and husband Karl Broderick as well as some former Miss Irelands – including Aoife Walsh, Rebecca Maguire and of course Sacha Livingstone – who handed over her crown.

Niamh will now head to Washington DC on December 19th to represent Ireland – jetting over on November 27th to prepare for the competition.

As well as winning the title Niamh has also won a lucrative modelling contract, luxury pampering from Ceira Lambert’s hair salon, clothes from So Amazing Fashions and products from Bellamianta tan.

Judges on the night included Talent agent Julian Benson, Bellamianta’s Linda Mc Namee, stylist Sonja Mohlich, Miss Ireland competition organiser Sean Montague, former Miss Ireland Jessica Hayes, and fellow former winner Anne Marie Gannon.

Of course our very own Miss Goss.ie Colleen O’Reilly shined through on the night – impressing judges in the talent round.

Colleen made it to the Top 8 finalists on the night, and will be continuing to focus on her modelling career in the coming months.
