PICS: Irish stars celebrate Pride in Dublin

It's been 25 years since homosexuality was decriminalised in Ireland

The annual Pride Parade took place in Dublin’s city centre today.

Thousands turned out to support the LGBTQ+ community, with the theme of this year’s parade being ‘We Are Family’.

The Dublin Pride Parade took place just two weeks after the Government issued an official apology to those who were prosecuted before homosexuality was decriminalised in 1993.

Of course, some of our favourite Irish stars were among those celebrating Pride today, see what they got up to:

James Kavanagh

Social media star and Ireland’s Got Mór Talent host celebrated Pride with his family today.

James was joined by his mum Margaret, sister Ann, his nephew Sean, and his niece Sarah – who was also celebrating her 14th birthday.

James and his family made their way through the Pride Parade on Universal Ireland’s Mamma Mia 2 float, and he posted a pretty epic snap amongst the crowd.

Another Irish star that celebrated Pride with their family today is James Patrice.

The social media star was invited onboard Bank of Ireland’s Pride float, and he was joined by his mum Fron and sister Vanessa.

James, Fron and Vanessa always crack us up on James’ Snapchat and Instagram Story – and they really brought the party to pride this year.

Deric Hartigan

TV3 weatherman Deric Hartigan celebrated Pride in style this year.

The presenter teamed up with Tesco for the Parade, and celebrated Pride with a touching message on Instagram.

He wrote, “Happy pride y’all; a celebration of love, equal rights, personal autonomy and freedom of expression. To the world; Ireland has become a beacon of social equality and an island at the forefront of social change.”

“We continue to fight for those who seek equality within the LGBT community around the world and esp to our neighbours in Northern Ireland.”

Cassie Stokes

TV3 Xposé host Cassie Stokes is the Queen of Dublin pride!

Before the parade festivities kicked off, the TV presenter had a rainbow-themed breakfast party with her cousin’s kids, as she wants them to “see rainbows from a young age”.

After enjoying a Pride breakfast with family, Cassie shared a snap of herself proudly holding up a rainbow flag alongside the caption, “Captain gay, flying into a pride parade nearest you.”

Ahead of Pride, we chatted to Cassie about her plans for Pride, and she even teased that she might get married to her long-term girlfriend Kathleen over the weekend.
