Phil Cawley has announced he’s leaving Today FM after 24 years.
The popular presenter shared the news during his show on Sunday evening, revealing he planned on leaving sooner but decided to hang on after the coronavirus pandemic hit.
A host of Irish stars took to Twitter to react to the news, along with some Today FM listeners.
Comedian Mario Rosenstock tweeted: “Well played Phil Cawley -24 great years on @TodayFM! You’ll be missed.”
Presenter Anton Savage wrote: “Very sad to see @PhilCawley go. I was in the building for his first show and remember a wise man at the time saying, rightly, ‘cream rises.’ A gentleman in every interaction I ever had with him and a consummate professional. Mario is spot on, you’ll be missed Phil.”
Ed Smith added: “A serious radio salute to the legendary @PhilCawley who is finishing up @TodayFM this afternoon. A brilliant jock who always had such a gorgeous connection with his listeners. His place in the Today FM Hall Of Fame is assured. Good luck Phil. You did the station some service.”
