People from all over the country flocked to Dublin to say goodbye to Gay Byrne this afternoon.

The legendary broadcaster’s funeral mass took place at St. Mary’s Pro Cathedral in Dublin’s city centre today.

Live coverage of Gay’s funeral aired on RTÉ One and RTÉ News Now in a special programme hosted by Bryan Dobson.

According to the broadcaster, people from all over the country, including counties Tipperary and Cork, travelled up to Dublin to pay their respects.

Irish people lined the streets of Dublin to bid farewell to Gaybo, who will be laid to rest during a private burial this afternoon.

The 85-year-old passed away at his home on Monday, following a long battle with cancer.

A host of well-known faces attended Gay’s funeral, including the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins, and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.
