Paul Mescal reveals his hopes to perform with Niall Horan

Paul Mescal has revealed his hopes to perform with Niall Horan some day.

The 24-year-old was praised for his acting talents in Normal People last year, but he’s since proved that he’s got an amazing singing voice.

The Maynooth native has shared videos of himself singing on Instagram, and he also performed alongside Dermot Kennedy for a virtual gig in 2020.

Now that he’s dipped his toe into the music industry, Paul has admitted he’d love to perform with the likes of Billie Eilish and Niall Horan next.

Speaking to OK! Magazine, the Irish actor said: “There are lots I’d like to perform with – Billie Eilish, Niall Horan. But I think I’d be firmly out of my depth!”

Explaining why he pursued acting instead of a more musical career, Paul said: “I wanted to get into musical theatre before I wanted to do acting but I realised I wasn’t the best dancer, so I had to reevaluate.”

“I realised that acting was the thing that I enjoyed the most out of all the disciplines.”

The news comes after Paul was cast in an upcoming musical back in November, replacing Jamie Dornan as the male lead in Benjamin Millepied’s film Carmen.

The upcoming film will re-imagine one of the world’s most celebrated operas under the same name, penned by Oscar-winning screenwriter Alexander Dinelaris Jr.

The Kildare native will star alongside Melissa Barrera in the flick, which kicked off filming this month in Australia.

Speaking to Variety, Paul said: “I’m honoured to have been cast alongside Melissa, an actor I greatly admire.”

“It’s an incredible privilege to be working with Benjamin on his first feature, who has put together such an impressive creative team.”

The musical will feature nine new songs by Oscar-nominated music composer Nicholas Britell.
