Panti Bliss celebrates a massive triumph as Pantibar sign STAYS

Panti Bliss has celebrated a massive triumph as Pantibar’s sign is approved to stay.

Dublin City Council wanted the sign removed because it was located in an ‘architectural conservation area’.

However, the sign, which is part of the drag star’s bar, has been allowed to stay because it is integral to the ‘”social, historical and cultural significance” of the area.

The Mayo native took to Facebook to share the good news to fans, “Absolutely delighted to say we wont our appeal and An Bord Pleanáia have granted permission for the Pantibar sign to stay.”

“In the decision they agree that ‘exceptional circumstances’ apply and that ‘the sign is integral to the social, historical and cultural significance of the current use of the premises,'” Panti continued.

Speaking before about the sign, the 47-year-old admitted that the sign has become a huge landmark since the marriage equality referendum in 2015.

“The sign accidentally has become a sign with real significance since the marriage referendum,” he told the Irish Times.

“It was a focal part of the celebrations of the referendum. Every day locals and tourists come there now to have their photo taken.

“It’s not an ill-considered sign, it was designed very carefully and thoughtfully and adds to the the street.”
