One Direction's Niall Horan organises charity football match next month

One Direction star Niall Horan is set to show off his football skills in a charity soccer match.

The Mullingar singer will line out on May 26 at King Power Stadium, the home ofLeicester City Football Club after recovering from knee surgery.

And Niall, 20, said he felt “privileged” to take on former Derby County Captain Robbie Savage’s team with a star-studded squad.

He will be joined by bandmates Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne, as well as Olly Murs, Robbie Fowler, Rod Stewart, Jason McAteer and Boyzone’s Keith Duffy.

They will be playing in aid of Mullingar-based charity Irish Autism Action – whose patron is Keith Duffy – as well as UK charity Heart and Minds Challenge and Leicester City Foxes Foundation.

Delighted Niall said: “I am very excited to host my first charity football match with myself and my bandmates Liam and Louis looking forward to giving Robbie Savage a run for his money.

“I feel very privileged that I am the position to be able to raise a significant amount of money for Irish Autism Action which is based in my home town of Mullingar.

“I am also delighted to also raise funds for UK based Heart and Minds Challenge and the Leicester City Foxes Foundation on the day.

“I have no doubt that the mix of celebrities and sporting legends will provide great fun and entertainment for the crowd attending.”

Tickets are on sale on Ticketmaster from 12pm, from £15.
