Oliver Callan opens up about his wedding plans – after postponing due to the pandemic

Oliver Callan has opened up about his wedding plans, after being forced to postpone due to the pandemic.

The Irish comedian and his partner John Lannin were set to tie the knot in October, after getting engaged in December 2018.

Speaking to Goss.ie ahead of his TV special Callan Kicks the Year, the 40-year-old admitted: “We sort of knew in March that it probably wasn’t going to happen.

“We took a wild guess that it was in trouble, so we prepared our minds all the way through for that.”

“It’s sad for anyone having to postpone a wedding, and particularly because we had waited so long because John’s sister was also getting married before us, so we gave them a year’s length space, and then we had this thing.

“So it does feel like the longest engagement of all time,” he said.

“We wanted to do Halloween in Castle Leslie this year because it fell on a Saturday and we’re nuts about Halloween,” Oliver explained.

“It also was not only a full moon, but it was the second full moon inside the same month – which meant it was a blue moon. So blue moon on Halloween on a Saturday sounded perfect, but look…”

“So it’s now Halloween next year. It’s not as fun because it’s a Sunday, but Saturday was already gone.

“We were lucky to get a date because 2021 is probably going to be the biggest second half of the year for weddings because I don’t think anyone is expecting to wed in the first half.”

When asked would the occasion be fancy dress themed, the impressionist said: “What I do most of the time is in fancy dress, so it just would feel too much like work!”

Oliver also said he was not planning on performing on his big day, explaining: “I should not be the centre of attention because there are two of us, so I would like to see everyone else do speeches.”

Callan Kicks the Year airs on RTÉ One tonight, December 30 at 9.25pm.

For our final episode of the Gosscast this year, Goss.ie Founder and CEO Alexandra Ryan chats with Goss.ie Editor Kendra Becker about the biggest stories of the year, the most read articles, and all the drama in between.
