Nicola Coughlan and Lola Petticrew are among Irish stars who have been nominated for the 2025 TV BAFTAs.

Galway native Nicola is nominated for Female Performance in a Comedy, thanks to her role in Channel 4’s Big Mood.

The series won widespread praise when it aired last year, and a second season was confirmed to be in the works in February.

The show’s synopsis reads: “Best friends Maggie (Nicola Coughlan) and Eddie (Lydia West) have lived in each other’s pockets for 10 years, through thick, thin; but with the rest of their lives looming, and Maggie’s bipolar disorder making an unwelcome return, Maggie and Eddie’s relationship faces the future.”

Nicola will go up against Anjana Vasan (We Are Lady Parts), Kate O’Flynn (Everyone Else Burns), Lolly Adefope (The Franchise), Ruth Jones (Gavin & Stacey: The Finale), and Sophie Willan (Alma’s Not Normal).

Belfast native Lola Petticrew is also nominated in the Leading Actress category for her role in FX’s Say Nothing, which aired on Disney+ in the UK and Ireland.

The series follows the lives of people growing up in Belfast in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s during the Troubles, as well as their involvement in the Provisional Irish Republican Army, and inquiries into the Disappeared and particularly the murder of Jean McConville.

Interviews from the Belfast Project are woven into the narrative which also includes depictions of the 1973 Old Bailey bombing and the subsequent hunger strike by the Price sisters, Dolours and Marian.

Lola will be up against Anna Maxwell Martin (Until I Kill You), Billie Piper (Scoop), Marisa Abela (Industry), Monica Dolan (Mr Bates vs The Post Office), and Sharon D. Clarke (Mr Loverman).

The BAFTA TV awards will take place on May 11th at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
