Nicky Byrne: 'Being a radio presenter is MORE pressure than playing stadiums with Westlife'

He played to hundreds and thousands of fans all over the world, but Nicky Byrne has said being on radio is more pressure.

The 2FM host who presents The Nicky Byrne Show admitted that he is more anxious about being on the airwaves.

“There is probably more pressure (then being in Westlife). When you leave Westlife you’re one of four.

“You always have someone there to watch your back and help you out when you’re stuck,” he told Goss.ie.

“But on radio what you say goes, there’s no filter.

“You’ve got to believe and trust yourself. I think from being in Westlife all those years,” he explained.

“The big thing for my was to prove it to myself, never mind the critics. I knew I could do it, but I needed to prove to myself that I could do it.

Being in one of the biggest boybands in the world is definitely a help rather than a hindrance, but Nicky Byrne has said it hasn’t help him on 2FM.

And Nicky admitted that radio boss Dan Healy took a chance on him.

“He was taking a massive punt on me, obviously people knew me but no one knew if I could actually do the show,” he said.

“Not swear on radio, push the buttons right. I’ve read stuff on Twitter where people say ‘your show is sh**’ and you just move on.

But although being a celebrity doesn’t make him a better host, it does give him better access to famous guests:

“Of course it helps a little bit, if you have certain numbers in your phone you can call people up which is fun.”
