Niall Horan's celebrity football match raises over €300,000

Mullingar man Niall Horan has raised over €300,000 at his annual Niall Horan Charity Football Challenge.

The celebrity event took place at The King Power Stadium, the home of Leicester FC, with over 15,500 tickets bought for the event.

Niall brought his celebrity pals along, including band members Harry, Liam and Louis.

Battling it out on the day was ‘Team Niall’ with Ben Winston and band mates Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson but Zayn Malik was missing in action.

Niall’s team faced CNN broadcaster Piers Morgan on ‘Team Piers’.

With members Robbie Savage, Piers’s son Spencer Morgan, Michael Vaughan, John Aldridge, Shayne Ward, Jason McAteer and Ambassador for Irish Action Autism, Keith Duffy.

Although Niall was the hero of the day, raising much needed funds for Autism Action and Hearts And Mind Challenge, his team actually lost the match.

But the One Direction star was still happy with the event.

“I would like to thank all the players who donated their time free of charge to support this event. I am looking forward to making this even bigger and better next year.

“I am delighted we have raised significant funds for Irish Autism Action which is based in my home town of Mullingar, UK based Heart and Minds Challenge and the Leicester Foxes Foundation.”
