Newstalk confirm George Hook’s retirement

He's been with the station for 16 years

Newstalk have confirmed that George Hook is retiring from his role at the station.

The broadcaster has been with the station for 16 years, and hosted shows like ‘High Noon’ and ‘Hook’s Saturday Sit In.’

Patricia Monahan, Managing Editor of the station, said, “George has been with Newstalk since we launched in 2002 and in the intervening 16 years has made a great contribution to the station.”

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank him and wish him well in his retirement,” she added.

George’s decision to retire comes after the radio host caused uproar last year, when he made a controversial comment about rape live on air.

He was subsequently suspended from the station, and stepped away from his ‘High Noon’ radio show.

However, George returned to the station just a few months later, but was moved to a weekend slot hosting ‘Hook’s Saturday Sit In’ – which will now come to an end next month.
