Muireann O’Connell has shared a genius cleaning hack for clothes during winter.
The Ireland AM star is known for sharing her fashion tips online – with her latest leaving fans shocked.
The presenter revealed this hack is “decades, if not centuries, old,” but comes in handy for the winter months.
In a video posted on her Instagram, Muireann shared the way she has been keeping her wool jumpers and coast clean and fresh – using one unconventional item.
She revealed she has been using vodka to get rid of the odour from her wool jumper and other wool clothing.
The broadcaster sat in her living room where she added some vodka and water to a spray bottle.
The 41-year-old explained: “So you take half a bottle of vodka, then you top it up with half a glass of water, you shake it up and then you spray it all over your wools.”
The solution helps to “attack any bacteria that causes odour” in your wool clothing.
She continued: “This means you don’t have to put your precious wools into the washing machine and therefore protecting them for longer.”
Muireann further explained in the caption: “How’re ya! This hack is decades, if not centuries, old. Pretty sure I had a grand-aunt who used vodka as a cleaner.”
“Chef’s kiss to @lauradebarra who keeps bringing these fabulous cleaning hacks into my life- her Garment Goddess book is a bible.”
“We did it on @irelandamvmtv as well recently on a cleaning clothes segment. Great tips!
“I try to wash proper wool as little as possible. Often hang it in the bathroom when the shower is going to give it a steam clean. Do a lot of air cleaning but this hack totally works.”
“Half vodka/ half water. And no, your clothes don’t smell of vodka. Can you not remember being a teenager and the ‘drink vodka. Your parents will never know’.”
“As for the Smirnoff. That’s poppin’ on stories. It was 3 fingers. It’s not Redrum’s sperm. It’s not that valuable 😆 only used it because I needed to freshen up my fav jumper @missshesgotknits as I have an outfit idea.”
She added: “You can use any old rubbish vodka. I was just out from my last batch. K, bye!”
Fans flooded the comments, shocked at the clever hack with one writing: “Amazing thank you – was just looking at some wool jumpers thinking they didn’t really need a full wash 🙌🏼”
Another commented: “🙌I never knew that Tk you so much for sharing this tip 👌💜”
