Muireann O’Connell makes emotional return to TV following the death of her beloved father

Muireann O’Connell has made an emotional return to TV following the death of her beloved father.

The TV presenter’s dad Brendan passed away earlier this month, following a battle with cancer.

Returning to The Six O’Clock Show on Monday evening, Muireann thanked viewers for their kind messages during this difficult time.

She said: “I just want to say a huge thank you. I just went into the post room and got my post, there’s loads of cards and notes there. I haven’t been able to read them before because I thought I was going to cry, but thank you to everyone who’s been in contact.”

“It’s been less than two weeks since my dad died and everyone has just been so unbelievably lovely.”

Taking to Instagram ahead of her TV return, Muireann shared a sweet snap alongside her mother, writing: “It’s been a completely s***** time. It will continue to be s***** but Marie can still laugh, thank god.”

“Pretty bloody awful leaving her today, tbh but, as so many people know, life has to go on even though your life is utterly changed. Back to work tomorrow. See ye then. Thanks to everyone who’s been in touch. Can’t tell you how much it means.”
