Molly Sterling (16) to represent Ireland at this year's Eurovision contest

Tipperary singer Molly Sterling is heading to Vienna to represent Ireland at the Eurovision this year.

The 16-year-old taught herself how to play the piano, and was a huge hit with viewers on the Late Late Show Eurosong edition tonight.

Singing the ballad Playing With Numbers which she co-wrote with song writer Greg French, the blonde admitted her “passport is out of date” as she won the contest.

“It’s an unbelievably feeling,” she said after her big win.

“I can’t believe that it happened, it’s amazing. I just want to make everyone proud and Greg has worked so hard on this.

“I  just love performing and I can now do it in an international scale – it’s mind-blowing. I don’t think my school will mind that I haven’t handed in my assignment. They’re all so supportive and they know this is what I’ve wanted to do since I was in nappies.”

Molly will head to Vienna on May 21st and will represent Ireland on the European stage.

The Tipperary star beat four other singers including Kat Mohan, Erika Selin, Nikki Kavanagh and Alex Saint.
