Michael Flatley: 'My body is paying the price for all my years dancing'

Michael Flatley has admitted he is “paying the price” for not looking after his body during his dance career.

The famed dancer revealed failing to look after himself has taken “a terrible toll” on his limbs.

“I’ve always been the one to tell the dancers to make sure they look after themselves, eat properly, not go out too much, stretching properly,” he said.

“We have great physio and great people with us to look after that.

“I didn’t have any advice when I was starting out so I did the wrong thing every time. As a result now my body’s paying the price, a terrible toll,” he explained.

“I wouldn’t trade it for the world, I’m the luckiest guy in the world.”

Honour: Michael admitted he wished his late father could have been at his Broadway honour | VIPIRELAND.COM

The Lord of the Dance star was honoured recently when a street on Broadway was named Flatley Way – however, he admitted he was sad his late father Michael Snr was not there.

“I wish my father was alive to see it. I never expected in my life. It was such a great honour to have something like that happen,” he revealed.

“I suppose now I feel like I’ve done it all. I can go home now. I’m happy.”

Christmas In New York airs December 23 at 11pm on Irish TV.
