Michael D Higgins has officially been re-elected as President of Ireland.
It has been revealed that he won 822,566 first preferences, that’s 55.8% of the vote.
Peter Casey came in second while Liadh NÃ Riada, Joan Freeman, Sean Gallagher and Gavin Duffy all followed.
Although the election had a seriously low turnout with only 1,492,338 people voting, there was still cause to celebrate as President Higgins took back his position with pride.
