Maura Higgins has revealed that Love Island bosses urged her to dump her now ex-boyfriend, when they approached her to appear on the show last year.

Before she signed up to appear on the series earlier this year, the Longford native was asked to star in the 2018 series – but she was in a relationship at the time.

Speaking on the Girls With Goals podcast, Maura said: “I remember last year when they called me up and I was with my ex – we had been together about six months and I said ‘no I’m in a relationship.'”

“They were like ‘how long have you been with that guy’ and I said ‘six months’ and they were like ‘well you don’t really know that that’s going to last.'”

“And they said to me ‘if anything happens closer to the show, let us know and we’ll get you in there.'”

Maura admitted: “My boyfriend wasn’t very happy.”
