Maura Higgins addresses rumours she’s ‘secretly dating’ fellow Love Island star

Fans are rooting for them to get together

Maura Higgins has finally addressed rumours she’s secretly dating Chris Taylor.

Rumours have been swirling about their relationship over the past few months, as they’ve been spending a lot of time together lately.

But during an Instagram Q&A on Wednesday night, Maura put the rumours to bed once and for all after someone asked: “Are you and Chris dating?”

Maura replied: “This is actually the first question that’s come in and I’m not even one bit surprised.”

“No we’re not dating… we are the best of friends. We just get on really really well. We got on well in the villa but not a lot of that was [shown].”

Maura’s clarification about their friendship comes after Chris recently admitted he unfollowed Curtis Pritchard to show her “a bit of loyalty”.

Last week, Curtis was pictured kissing professional dancer Amber Pierson – just months after she denied claims that they hooked up behind Maura’s back.

After the photos hit headlines, Maura cryptically tweeted, “The truth always comes out in the end,” before she unfollowed Curtis on Twitter.

A host of Love Island stars then showed their support for Maura by unfollowing Curtis on social media – including her best mate Chris Taylor.

Speaking on The Six O’Clock Show, Chris confirmed he did press the unfollow button – but said there’s “more to the story”.

He said: “I was just basically on the phone with Maura as the news dropped so we were having a catch up.”

“I back Maura, I spend a lot of time with her, I’m very loyal to her she’s literally like my best mate from the villa so it was kind of a no brainer.”

“Obviously there is a lot more to it than you see in the press… It’s just not something I want to personally be associated with.”

“So I unfollowed him to show a bit of loyalty to Maura, and also I didn’t even think it was that big of a deal but people really blow unfollowing out of proportion – it’s not that deep.”

Chris was also pressed about rumours he’s secretly dating Maura, but the 30-year-old said they’re “just really good mates”.

“Do you know what, if I had a quid for every time somebody asked me that I’d be able to buy batteries and cheese and other expensive things,” he said.

“No we are just really really good mates we get on really well totally platonic, we’ve never done anything and we just like each other’s company. We just have really good banter, I like the Irish banter,” he added.

During her Q&A, Maura also said there’s “zero awkwardness” between her and Molly-Mae Hague – after she tried to hook up with Tommy Fury on Love Island last year.

She said: “There is like zero awkwardness. Honestly we laugh about the stuff that happened in Love Island. And to be honest, even looking back it’s like, ‘Oh God did that even happen?'”

“They’re literally couple goals. They will get married and have babies and I’m so happy for them, that is the truth. We’re literally like a family like I get on with them so well.”
