Maria Walsh: 'It's going to be bittersweet handing over my Rose of Tralee crown'

Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh has admitted handing over her pageant crown next week will be “bittersweet”.

The brunette beauty, who is the first openly gay winner of the coveted pageant, will hand over her rose reins on Tuesday.

“It’s going to be bittersweet handing over my Rose of Tralee crown next week. I’ve had the most amazing year,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Mayo woman revealed she’s signed to celebrity agent Noel Kelly and has some exciting projects lined-up.

“In fact, after treating myself to a short Californian holiday, I’ll stay in Ireland for a few months and see what opportunities come up,” she admitted.

“I’ve signed with Ryan Tubridy’s agent Noel Kelly so hopefully any projects in the pipeline will happen soon.

“The entrepreneur side of my brain also needs to be fed so I’m looking at some potential start-ups,” she told the Herald.

“I think Ireland has a lot of opportunity now and I’m trying to find a project where I can marry everything I learned this year as Rose of Tralee with my previous life experience.”
