TV star Maia Dunphy believes females freezing their eggs will soon be “as normal as opening a bank account”.

The RTE presenter said she thinks it is “brilliant” that tech companies Apple and Facebook will now offer female employees the chance to do so.

And Maia, 38 – who is married to comedian Johnny Vegas – hopes it will soon become the norm for women to be able to delay having kids.

She said: “Apple and Facebook to offer egg freezing to their female employees. There are no guarantees in life but I think this is a brilliant thing.”

She aded: “But I think egg freezing will soon become as normal as opening a bank account. For work or personal reasons.”

However Celebrity MasterChef star Maia insisted that mums who work do “need more support” to take care of kids if they do start a family.

She said: “Childcare costs are still ludicrous. I know it’s a delicate issue but some women choose to put children off for whatever reason.

“Choice is good. The biggest problem facing mothers who work is still childcare.”

After being attacked by some Twitter followers, Maia insisted people need to remember everyone should be able to choose when they want kids.

She said: “Every issue around motherhood is an individual, and inevitably, personal one.

“People seem to be confusing the childcare issue with women who CHOOSE to delay motherhood.

“I know the reason for the latter can sometimes be the former, but not always.”
