Radio host Lucy Kennedy has shared the moment Barry Keoghan got the phone call that changed his career.
Lucy moved in with the Saltburn actor back in 2019 for her show Living with Lucy, which saw her spend the weekend with Barry at his home in Los Angeles.
Barry received a call during her visit offering him the part of Druig in the highly anticipated Marvel film Eternals, which helped mark a significant turning point in his acting career.
Speaking about the Irish actor, Lucy told the Irish Independent, “Barry Keoghan is a superstar. He’s so casual and so relaxed. There’s not a percentage of an ego in that guy’s body.”
“He said very casually, ‘Guys, I hope you don’t mind, I just need to take phone calls from my agent’. So, I said, ‘Oh, how exciting’, but he didn’t say anything back.”
She continued, “When he came out, he was grinning from ear to ear. He told me I couldn’t tell anyone, which was agony because I wanted to call everybody in my phone book.”
“He said he just got offered a job with Marvel and he was shocked, so chuffed. We all hugged and said, ‘Let’s get locked’. It was brilliant to be there for his life changing phone call.”
Speaking exclusively to Goss.ie ahead of her new show Real Life with Lucy, the Virgin Media presenter opened up about her relationship with the movie star.
“Yes I do keep in contact with him, but we have to get him over for the Gossies,” she said, referencing our annual awards show.
“What I will say about Barry is that I don’t think he has let anything go to his head. He still just reminds me of a naughty little boy.”
“He is a cheeky chap, he is a good guy,” she continued.
Lucy praised Barry for his humble personality, explaining that he is naturally “very chill” and “very down to earth”.
Barry has previously spoken about his appreciation and pride for being Irish, and Lucy confirmed this by saying: “No matter what carpet he is on, he will find the Irish journalist and speak [to them].”
