Louis Walsh’s protégé Brendan Murray set for dreaded Six Chair Challenge

The singer has represented Ireland at the Eurovision

Brendan Murray has made it through to the Six Chair Challenge on The X Factor.

The Galway native, who represented Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2017, has also secured One Direction star Louis Tomlinson as his mentor.

Sharing a clip from the show on Twitter, Brendan wrote: “Not only did I get through to the Six Chair Challenge but @Louis_Tomlinson is my mentor! Absolutely over the moon, Six chair lets be having ya! ❌???? @TheXFactor.”

Viewers will remember Brendan’s tough first audition earlier this month, as Simon Cowell asked him to learn and perform a cover of Kate Bush’s This Woman’s Work in a matter of hours.

Thankfully, Brendan impressed the judges with his unique voice, and now he’s set to face the judges at the dreaded Six Chair Challenge.

Aside from the Eurovision, Irish viewers will recognise Brendan as a member of popular Irish boyband Hometown – which was formed by Louis Walsh in 2014.

Louis auditioned a thousand young hopefuls for the band, and after a year of searching, he finally settled on six members – Cian Morrin, Dayl Cronin, Dean Gibbons, Josh Gray, Ryan McLoughlin and Brendan Murray.

The band, who were signed to RCA Records, built a dedicated fanbase and enjoyed success in the Irish charts – but sadly decided to part ways in December 2016, much to their fans dismay.
