Louis Walsh: 'We used to just phone our acts now Simon Cowell has us working five days a week'

Louis Walsh has revealed he’s working harder on the X Factor this year than he as ever worked before.

The Mayo music manager has been on the judging panel for 11 years now, but says this year has been the toughest.

“I love it. I am an addict of the show. Working with Simon is never tiresome because he makes it interesting and he makes us all work really hard,” he explained.

“We’re working five days a week on the show now. Year one and year two we’d just phone our songs in, we’d show up and go through it. He’s making everybody work harder.

Hard work: Louis said Simon is dedicated

” Working with Simon is brilliant, it’s the best job in the world. He demands that you work more.

“If you don’t like it you shouldn’t be doing it, that’s his attitude.  If you don’t want to go to work, just forget it.

“He’s a workaholic. I went back to his house the other night after the show and what did we do? We watched the show again. He always wants it to be better,” he admitted.

With the live shows in full swing on TV3 every Saturday and Sunday night, Louis is spending every week in London. And even when he’s off Louis admitted Simon keeps calling him.

Live shows: Louis is working every day in London

“He calls me at two or three in the morning but I’m always up. I’m a night person so I love it. That’s when I’m up,” he said.

“I hate calls in the morning. I much prefer calls at night time. I’m very like him.

“I love the business. I love watching the show. I love watching the charts. I love the new music. I love everything.”

Meanwhile Louis said he speaks to his groups every day. The former Westlife manager is in charge of Stereo Kicks and Only The Young.

Louis said he makes sure to have fun with both groups every week.

“We went skating, we went to the football. I’m going out with their parents for a meal this week with Only the Young.

“I keep promising them if they get through to the next week that whatever they want me to do I will do, be it ice-skating, going on the London Wheel, doing things I would never do.

“If they do it I said, “I’ll go with you next week”. That’s the deal,” he said.
