Liam Cunningham had ‘no idea Game of Thrones was going to be so huge’

Liam Cunningham has admitted that he never thought that Game of Thrones was going to be as popular as it is today.

The Dubliner stars in the show as Davos Seaworth and is one of the major characters in the cult hit.

“I knew it was going to be good but I’d no idea it was going to be so huge, but I don’t believe anybody knew,” he said.

Chats: Liam spoke to Danny O’Reilly

Speaking to Danny O’Reilly on Today FM’s A Different Side, the 55-year-old revealed that he knew the story of the show was great but didn’t think Game of Thrones would give him a star status.

“When I read the first episode I knew this was gold. It was such a magnificent, mad anarchic story,” Liam told Danny.

“When you compress my career down it looks like not many years, but I was an overnight success after 27 years.

“But we won the Palme d’Or with Wind That Shakes The Barley, I’ve worked with Spielberg and all sorts of people, but I can still disappear off the radar for a while, and people forget about me, and I kind of like that.
