Laura Whitmore’s BBC replacement revealed after shock departure

Helen Skelton has been revealed as Laura Whitmore’s replacement on BBC Radio 5.

The 37-year-old recently announced she was stepping away from her Sunday slot on the radio station, after four years.

BBC Radio 5 confirmed Laura’s replacement on Twitter, and revealed Helen will take over her slot next month.

They wrote: “We’ve got some exciting news… @HelenSkelton will present a new-look Sunday morning programme on BBC Radio 5 Live.”

“The new show, from 10am to midday, launches on August 14th. Welcome Helen.”

Heidi Dawson, controller of BBC Radio 5 Live, confirmed Laura’s departure from the station last week.

She told MailOnline: “Laura has made the difficult decision to leave after a brilliant four years.”

“We’d like to thank her for the energy, insight and humour she has brought to this programme and look forward to working with her again in the near future.”

The popular presenter started hosting her BBC Radio 5 show back in 2018.

The Bray native has since landed a hosting role on ITV2’s Love Island, which is also narrated by her comedian husband Iain Stirling.

The couple secretly tied the knot at Dublin’s City Hall on November 11, 2020, and welcomed their first child last March – a daughter named Stevie Ré.

The couple started dating back in 2016, but didn’t go public with their romance until the following year.
