Laura Whitmore opens up about split from Danny O'Reilly: 'It was really hard'

Laura Whitmore has broken her silence on her love split from Danny O’Reilly.

The Bray beauty and the Coronas rocker parted ways in 2012 while she was in Australia filming I’m A Celebrity – with Laura admitting it was the toughest thing she has ever had to go through.

“That was really, really hard. And I went through that massive break-up while I was doing live TV on the other side of the world,” she said.

“People could write about it, people could guess about it, and at the end of the day I was just a girl who was really hurt.”

“My mum flew over and I wasn’t well, only because of the stress of everything that was going on. I lost a lot of weight,” she admitted.

“My dad rang up and said, ‘You’re too skinny’. My dad saying I’m too skinny must mean I’m too skinny.

“Break-ups are hard but I couldn’t even go out and get drunk with my girlfriends,” she added.

Tight-lipped: Laura remained tight-lipped over her split with Danny | NICKY JOHNSTON

The couple dated on and off for more than two years but the former MTV News host has refused to reveal exactly why they split up.

“We broke up for a reason. I broke up with him for a reason. It’s no one else’s business why we broke up,” she said frankly.

Heartache aside, the 30-year-old revealed she is on good terms with Danny but admitted it is awkward to move on when being constantly questioned about him.

“No, but it’s a bit weird, because I’m actually good friends with Danny, shockingly,” she said.

“I actually got a text from him today. So, for me, there’s no bad feeling with Danny.

“But I suppose, with Danny, especially because of who Danny is in Ireland, everyone is guessing – did we break up or didn’t we break up? It was hard,” she admitted.

“It was hard if you are going out with someone new and they put a picture of who you used to go out with. And that is a bit weird and awkward.”

New romance: Laura has opened up about having a relationship in the spotlight | INSTAGRAM

Past romances aside, the Wicklow woman is now dating Sunset Sons frontman Rory Williams and admitted that being in the spotlight can make new relationships tough.

“It’s a bit s**t. You could be on a first date and it is awkward, and I’m a girl who is nervous and thinking, ‘Do I like this boy?’ and suddenly everyone gets a picture and they write about it,” she told the Sunday Independent.

“You’re mortified because you’ve just met someone. You’re just a girl at the end of the day.”
