Katie Taylor: ‘Rio Olympics loss was the lowest point of my career’

Katie Taylor has admitted that her loss at the Rio Olympics was the lowest point of her career.

The Bray native fought against Finland’s Mira Potkonen in the lightweight 60KG division but lost her title.

“I was very disappointed. It was the lowest point of my career,” she said.

The boxer revealed that there were a lot of tears shed in Brazil but she’s happy to be back training.

“I had a hard week in Rio. There was a lot of tears shed,” she told the Irish Sun.

“I just had to pick myself back up and get on with it. I took a few weeks off. I had a nice holiday and now I’m happy to be back training.”

The Olympian also revealed that she has been looking at other options that still involve her passion for boxing.

“I’m weighing up all the options at the moment,” she said.

“I’m going to pick whichever option I’m most passionate about and obviously whichever one is best for me financially and as a boxer.”
