Katie Taylor receives huge praise online – as she remains undisputed world champion

Katie Taylor has been branded “Ireland’s greatest athlete” after her win against Natasha Jonas.

The Bray native defended her Undisputed World Lightweight titles on Saturday night, in a thrilling fight that took place in Manchester Arena.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the fight, the 34-year-old said: “I’m just delighted with the win. What a fight.”

“Any time myself and Natasha have fought, it was like that, an edge of the seat fight. I dug deep and won the championship rounds and I’m delighted to get the win.”

“You have heart, fight and grit in there and it’s everything you need for a great fight. I knew the rounds were close and I knew I had to win the rounds at the end. I knew I had to win the championship rounds.”

“I’d love to see a rematch between her and Teri Harper and maybe down the road a rematch between ourselves. She has everything you would need to win a world title,” Katie added.

Irish stars took to Twitter to praise Katie following her epic win, including boxer Jason Quigley who wrote: “Massive congrats @KatieTaylor the heart and determination she showed at the end of each round just shows you why she so special, forever doing this country proud.”

Rob Kearney wrote: “To still have that speed after 10 rounds is insanely impressive #KatieTaylor”, while Simon Delaney wrote: “Congratulations to @KatieTaylor! STILL the undisputed lightweight champion of the world.”
