Kathryn Thomas turned down life in LA after meeting fiancé Padraig

Kathryn Thomas has revealed that she turned down the chance to live and work in Los Angeles, after meeting her fiancé Padraig McLoughlin.

Four years ago, a US talent agency wanted to book Kathryn, but the Carlow native ended up turning down their offer as she would have to split her time between Ireland and the US.

Now, the TV star has admitted that it just “wasn’t the right time” as she had just met restaurateur Padraig McLoughlin, who she is now engaged to since last November.

“I got the opportunity [to work in LA] a few years ago when there was an agency who wanted me to sign on with them, but you have to commit,” she told the Irish Mirror.

“They’re not going to sign you on unless you live out there six months of the year and at that stage things were going really well here and I had just met Padraig. That was four years ago,” she explained.

Despite the exciting prospect of living in LA, Kathryn has revealed that she’s never had a real desire to work outside of Ireland.

“I never had the longing to really work outside Ireland. Seeing the competitiveness and the fickle nature over there I think I’m happy here [in Ireland]. I travel so much that I think I’m very settled living here – I don’t think I’ll live anywhere else other than Ireland.

“People ask if it’s something I regret not pushing forward with but for me it wasn’t the right time. You’re in the audition phase so there’s no concrete offer. I was committed and contracted here anyway,” she added.

Meanwhile, Kathryn also opened up about her wedding plans, or lack thereof, as she admitted that she “hasn’t really thought about the wedding” since getting engaged last year.
