Kathryn Thomas opens up about her lockdown experience with husband Padraig McLoughlin: ‘We didn’t kill each other’

Kathryn Thomas has opened up about her lockdown experience with her husband Padraig McLoughlin.

The Irish TV star and the restaurateur tied the knot in 2019, and welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Ellie, in 2018.

The couple spent lockdown in their Dublin home, with Kathryn admitting that she knew their relationship was strong when they “didn’t kill each other”.

Speaking to RSVP Live, the 41-year-old said: “We are different. While I’d be laid-back in a way, I’d be a bit frenetic and frantic whereas Pádraig is much more steady and the voice of reason.”

“He is so easy-going as well. I’d come up with all of these mad notions and he would generally go with the flow until I push him over the edge and then he’ll call a halt.

“It’s a good balance and if we didn’t kill each other in the pandemic like so many couples we’re good to go.”

The Operation Transformation host admitted that she and her husband Padraig found the first few months of lockdown difficult.

“We learned a lot about each other, we learned to compromise, we learned we needed our own space.”

Opening up about her daughter Ellie, Kathryn explained: “Ellie’s like both of us really because she is a bit of a wild yolk but she is a very sensitive soul as well – she definitely gets that from her dad – and is very caring.

“You get a new understanding of parenting when you have a child,” she added.

“My mom was great, she made sure everything was right and that we were mannerly and respectful. We didn’t realise it at the time but we were blessed with our parents.”
