Kathryn Thomas calls on country to 'wake up' and legalise gay marriage

TV star Kathryn Thomas has called for the country to “wake up” and make gay marriage legal.

The Voice of Ireland presenter has thrown herself behind a yes vote in next year’s referendum.

And the RTE host said she is particularly annoyed that Aengus Mac Grianna has to get his marriage legally recognised in the UK rather than at home.

“The celebration throws up the question again, why should Aengus and Terry have to travel to the UK to have their marriage legally recognised?,” she said.

“It really is time for us to wake up here in Ireland and change the law to allow gay marriage.”

And writing in her Star column, Kathryn said she was delighted to see Aengus look the “picture of happiness” after marrying Terry Gill at the weekend.

“Congratulations to RTE newsreader Aengus Mac Grianna who looked the picture of happiness marrying his long-term partner Terry Gill in Meath at the weekend,” she added.

“And who better than Anne Doyle to walk you up the aisle. I thought it was a lovely gesture after hearing Aengus speak so fondly about how Anne has always looked out for him.”
